Things to Know About

Invisalign

Invisalign Benefits

There are a number of great benefits to Invisalign®, especially in comparison to traditional braces. The most outstanding advantages to these clear aligners include the following:

  • They are invisible. While braces are rows of metal and colored bands, these trays are completely transparent.

  • Invisalign is easier to brush around. This is because there are no wires or brackets, just trays you take out. You brush and floss like you normally do.

  • They boost confidence. Many patients do not like the look of traditional braces because of the way that they attract attention and change a person’s appearance. With Invisalign®, nobody will even know you have them in!

  • They require fewer visits to the dentist. This is because there is no need for adjusting. Your new trays are sent directly to you, so your dentist only needs to take a look every once in a while to make sure that your teeth are shifting according to plan.

  • Invisalign trays are more comfortable. These do not require constant tightening, and you can take them out to eat or brush. This makes everyday activities that much easier.

Who is the good candidate for Invisalign?

While traditional orthodontics rely on metal braces to straighten your smile, Invisalign® treatment relies on a series of clear plastic aligners. These aligners are nearly invisible, and allow you to maintain a completely natural look while also receiving treatment to improve the position and appearance of your teeth. Invisalign® is typically recommended to treat all the same issues as braces, including: Bad bites (overbite, underbite, open bite, crossbite, etc.), Crowded and crooked teeth, Gapped and spaced teeth.

Does Invisalign Hurt?

Invisalign should not cause pain. While patients may experience soreness when they put the week's new aligners in, the individual should not experience anything more than soreness. If your mouth is sore due to wearing Invisalign, take Tylenol or Advil and contact your professional dentist if the pain becomes unbearable.

How Long Does Invisalign Take?

Every patient must wear their aligners for 22 hours per day. This means that every time an individual is not eating, drinking, or brushing their teeth, their aligners should be in. However, the span of months or years it takes for Invisalign to completely align teeth depends on the patient's case, as well as how often they wear their aligners. To learn more about how long you will need to wear Invisalign aligners to see the results you are looking for, talk with your dentist.

Invisalign Process

Your Invisalign aligners are made using advanced computer technology. This ensures that they fit your mouth perfectly and are comfortable to wear. Each set of aligners makes minor changes to the position of your teeth, and as you switch to a new set of aligners every few weeks your teeth will gradually and gently move into their correct positions. You will need to meet with our dentist regularly while receiving Invisalign treatment to ensure that everything is progressing as planned.

If you receive Invisalign treatment, you will need to wear your aligners as often as possible. The best results come from wearing your aligners 20-22 hours each day, removing them only to eat, brush and floss. You will be able to maintain a normal diet throughout your treatment, as the removable aligners mean that you can easily keep your teeth clean.

We also recommend that you clean your aligners frequently. If not cleaned regularly, your aligners may cause your teeth to appear dirty, gray or stained.
